Depuis plusieurs mois l'équipe de développement de Kunena travaille sur la version 1.6.0 qui fait un grand bond en avant par rapport à la version 1.5, la version 1.6.0 est disponible depuis quelques jours en version alpha. Cette nouvelle version intègre un nombre impressionnant de nouvelles fonctionnalités qui devraient plaire au plus grand nombre et met la concurrence sous pression. La version 1.6.0 permet de préparer le passage au MVC pour la 2.0, sans avoir besoin de jeter du code.
Les nouveautés de cette version 1.6 sont les suivantes, certaines des fonctionnalités suivantes sont présentes dans l'alpha2 .
